An 'Act of War'? One Old Greenwich Yankees Fan — and a Judge — Think So

Ah...The boys & girls of summer heat up sports rivalry with state Rep. Fred Camillo—a diehard NY Yankees fan.

State Rep. Red Camillo is a staunch Republican. And his allegiance to the New York Yankees could arguably be even stronger. Heck, he regularly posts baseball and Yankees comments on Facebook and has blogged about them on Greenwich Patch (albeit not for a while!).

So the application of Boston Red Sox logo magnets of the Old Greenwich resident's Ford Edge and Ranger pickup understandably raised his ire.

With a picture posted on Facebook showing his Edge sporting the iconic pair of Red Sox, Camillo declared, "Act of War....To the vandals who perpetrated this atrocity, you will be hunted down and held to account for this."

Camillo said he has a suspect in mind...another Greenwich resident — a Democrat, surprise!

However, could Camillo be to blame for the start of it all? He admitted to "placing a copy of an article critical of President Obama with the headline 'It's a Trainwreck' on the windshield" of the unidentified Dem.

"I came out of the gym and found the magnet on the Edge," Camillo told Greenwich Patch. And when he returned home, he found an identical magnet affixed to his Ford pickup.

In less than two hours of his Facebook posting, Camillo has received close to 90 comments from friends and foes from across all political ... and sports aisles.

Even state Superior Court Judge Bruce Hudock of Old Greenwich weighed in. Tongue in cheek, Hudock posted on Facebook, "There may be reason to believe that violations of our state statutes have occurred." Hudock added, "Considering the serious nature of the alleged conspiracy, high bonds may be a necessity!"

Camillo says he knows the identity of the magnet maven.

"I do know. Everybody else was getting blamed including Ricky Novakowski (an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Greenwich Tax Collector and a member of Red Sox Nation) … "It’s a goof—he’s a prime suspect even though he maintains his innocence." Even state legislative colleagues including state Rep. Robert Sanchez of New Britain weighed in with comments.

Camillo added, "It just shows that baseball allegiance takes precedence over politics."

Asked if he would elaborate on how the perp would be held accountable, Camillo laughed and said, "They’ll put me in sensitivity training if I get any more forceful than that."

Now what we haven't heard yet, is whether anyone has tried to outfit Camillo's beloved German shepherd Rudy with a Red Sox bandanna!

And for the record—Camillo hasn't filed a complaint with Greenwich Police.
