Updated: Mary Kennedy Died of Asphyxiation by Hanging, Examiner Says

Kennedy died of an apparent suicide.

Updated, Noon, Thursday The Westchester County Medical Examiner's office released a statement Thursday afternoon saying Mary Kennedy's cause of death was asphyxiation due to hanging. Updated, 9 a.m. Thursday The New York Times is reporting that Kennedy's body was found hanging in a barn behind their home and that authorities who responded to the scene had attempted to cut her down and revive her. Kennedy apparently left a note. Authorities have not released a cause of death and an autopsy is scheduled for this morning. First story: Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of Robert F. Arrest in Greenwich Stalking Case

Greenwich PD: Suspect accused of continued stalking of victim.

A Greenwich man has been arrested on charges he violated a protective order and stalked a town resident. Robert Lee Jennings, 48, was arrested May 15 at his 28 Ridge St., residence by police who obtained an arrest warrant. Jenning was charged with first-degree stalking, second-degree breach of peace and violation of a protective order. According to Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray, Jennings stalked his victim, "almost under the same circumstances with the same victim several years" after the initial incident. The latest charges stem from a Feb. 19 incident for which Gray did not provide details. Jennings was released after posting $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear May 16 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Mary Kennedy Found Dead on Bedford Estate

Police were called to "an unattended death" in an out-building on the property.

Mary Kennedy, the 52-year-old estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was found dead in her Bedford, NY home Wednesday.  The Kennedy family released a statement to the press Wednesday evening: "We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time." The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed her death to Patch. They will be conducting an autopsy to determine the cause. Bedford police responded to the Kennedy residence at 326 S. Fire Engulfs Cos Cob Home

According to Greenwich FD dispatches: 2 firefighters suffer minor injuries in house fire on Steep Hollow Road.

Greenwich firefighters are battling a house fire on Steep Hollow Road, off Cognewaugh Road in Cos Cob. According to fire dispatches and information from 911.com, two firefighters were transported to Stamford Hospital for "minor injuries" shortly about 6:45 p.m. Personnel are still extinguishing flames in the attic and basement of the home. Patch will post updates as they become available.

Greenwich Diamond Bait and Switch Leads to Arrest

Police charge exterminator in case of switching expensive diamond with 'a lesser quality" stone in client's home.

An exterminator has been arrested again on a larceny charge, accused of switching an expensive diamond from the ring of a Greenwich client with a stone of lesser quality. George Lawrence, 41, who gave an address of 156 Wake St., Bridgeport, surrendered May 15 to Greenwich Police who obtained an arrest warrant charging him with first-degree larceny in connection with the Dec. 29, 2010 incident. Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said, "He switches diamonds with a lesser quality diamond with the intent to mislead the owner it is the same ring." The bait and switch apparently didn't fool the resident of a Thunder Mountain Road home who noticed that the diamond from a ring had been changed. Greenwich Woman Faces DWI and Narcotics Charges

Driving at high speed and failing to turn left while in a left turn only lane draws officer's attention, police said.

A Greenwich woman faces charges of drunk driving and possession of narcotics after she was stopped by a Norwalk patrol officer who said she was traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to turn while in a left turn only lane. The officer said he observed her car traveling at high speed on Wall Street, and after failing to turn left, he stopped her on West Avenue at 1:36 a.m. The officer reported that when he approached her, she had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath and her eyes were red and glazed. He said she asked him why he stopped her and told him she had just come from a bar and wanted to go home. The woman, later identified as Irene Larusso, failed a field sobriety test, according to the officer. He said he found a folded …

Body Work Without Permits Nets An Arrest

Other suspects charged following arguments, failing to appear in court.

A Brooklyn, NY was arrested on charges he was soliciting auto body work without the proper permits in the parking lot of Whole Foods over the weekend. Toby Ufie, 55, who gave an address of 497 Myrtle Ave., Brooklyn, NY, was charged with illegal sales without a sales tax permit, violation of a seller's obligation, criminal attempt, and soliciting without a permit, according to Greenwich Police. Officers were summoned by the owner of a car on which Ufie is accused of performing body work on the rear bumper for $200. While police investigated the car owner's complaint another man reported that Ufie also approached him to perform work. Ufie was released after posting $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear May 21 in state Superior Court in …

Rocks In Greenwich Road Lead To Arrest

A roundup of weekend motor vehicle arrests in Greenwich.

A "large amount of rock debris" in both lanes of Pemberwick Road early Sunday led Greenwich Police on a path to arrest a town man on charges related to leaving the scene of an accident. The remnants of the crash—which posed a traffic hazard—were discovered about 2:20 a.m. May 13 by Officer Oliver Doenges, according to a Greenwich Police report. Evidence at the scene indicated a Cadillac was involved. Doenges found a Cadillac with "heavy damage" about a half-mile away from the scene, which was south the Comly Avenue intersection, according to the report. The operator was identified as Francesco R. Pompa, 45, who gave an address of 50 Quaker Rd., Greenwich. Pompa told police that he was involved in the crash and did not report it to police, …

Police: Town Man Faces DWI Charges After Leaving Accident Scene

A Greenwich man was arrested after crashing his car into a tree on McClain Street while driving under the influence of alcohol, Bedford, NY police said. Police responded to a report of a car accident at the intersection of McLain Street and Barker Street in Bedford Hills at 5:15 a.m. on May 5. They arrived and found a Nissan Morano that had apparently struck a tree. No driver was on the scene. Police checked out the car and found an open container of beer and a local Broad Brook Road address printed on a pay stub. While investigating, police saw an oncoming car approach the area and stopped the vehicle. They interviewed the driver and the passenger, Ever Martinez, 37, of Greenwich. Investigation focused on printed images of child pornography found in former public school music teacher Steven Allen's residence.

  Greenwich Police and the FBI have concluded that the child pornography found in a former music teacher's home "was not produced locally nor where there any local victims." Greenwich Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said the joint investigation into the photographs found in the home of the late music teacher Steve Allen "were not new images. They were images well-known by the Center for Missing and Exploited Children which catalogs all known instances of child pornography." Gray also said, "The only evidence we have was that he was in possession of child pornography which he did not produce or trade. He most likely downloaded it from the Internet."
