The Putnam Hill Chapter, with more than 200 members, is currently the largest local chapter of Daughters of the…More American Revolution, a national organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism.</p> <p>Since its founding in 1897, the Putnam Hill Chapter has owned and maintained the Putnam Cottage, a museum that is open to the public. The chapter also coordinates a number of activities and events including a history essay contest for students in grades five through ten and citizenship awards for local students.</p> <p>Annual events include the reenactment of General Putnam's Ride, Colonial Day in October and an open house in December. Membership requires that a woman can document her ancestry to someone who gave aid or was a soldier during the Revolutionary War. Volunteers are needed for various tasks.</p>
