The Putnam Hill Chapter, with more than 200 members, is currently the largest local chapter of Daughters of the…More American Revolution, a national organization dedicated to historic preservation, education and patriotism.
Since its founding in 1897, the Putnam Hill Chapter has owned and maintained the Putnam Cottage, a museum that is open to the public. The chapter also coordinates a number of activities and events including a history essay contest for students in grades five through ten and citizenship awards for local students.
Annual events include the reenactment of General Putnam's Ride, Colonial Day in October and an open house in December. Membership requires that a woman can document her ancestry to someone who gave aid or was a soldier during the Revolutionary War. Volunteers are needed for various tasks.
