2 Face DWI Charges

Greenwich Police: Drivers stopped after moving violations.

Two local men face charges of driving while intoxicated after Greenwich Police stopped them for apparent motor vehicle violations.

A 38-year-old Port Chester, NY man was arrested at 2:55 a.m. Feb. 10 after police said they saw him drifting in his lane of traffic on West Putnam Avenue, near Byram Terrace Drive. The driver also is accused of making a turn without signaling and swerving to miss a sign in a pedestrian crosswalk. Police said that he had red, bloodshot, glassy eyes, smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests.

Walter Vasquez, 38, who gave an address of 87 Inwood Ave., Port Chester, was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to drive in proper lane, failure to signal a restricted turn and improper signal for turn. He was released after posting $250 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 24 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

At 1:20 a.m. Feb. 11, Zachary A. Shaffer, 27, who gave an address of 10 Lighthouse Ln., Greenwich, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and failure to obey a stop sign. He is accused of ignoring a stop sign at Forest and Tomac avenues in Old Greenwich. Police said Shaffer's eyes were bloodshot and he smelled of alcohol.

He was held in lieu of $250 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 21 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
