Sports Medicine Specialist Demetris Delos, MD Joins ONS Team

ONS, (Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Specialists) on Valley Drive has announced that orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist Demetris Delos, MD has joined the ONS physician team.

Dr. Delos earned his medical degree at Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York.  He did his internship at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) /New York-Presbyterian Hospital and completed a residency in Orthopedics at HSS. He also did a research fellowship at the HSS Laboratory for Soft Tissue Research prior to completing a surgical fellowship in Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at HSS, where he was Chief Administrative Fellow. In addition, he served as Assistant NFL Team Physician for the New York Football Giants as well a team physician for local high school and college athletes.

Dr. Delos’s practice is focused on sports medicine and arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder disorders including knee preservation surgery and shoulder instability and rotator cuff repair. He has a specific interest in the comprehensive care of athletic knee disorders including meniscus, ligament, and cartilage injuries. His practice incorporates the latest operative methods including meniscal preservation and transplantation, ACL and multiple ligament knee reconstruction and repair surgery, osteotomies to realign joints, and cartilage repair and restoration.

“Dr. Delos makes an excellent addition to our practice,” said ONS President John Crowe.  “He is an accomplished surgeon and his research has been extensively published in leading medical journals. He has also earned awards for leadership and scholarship and has made many scientific presentations at conferences both nationally and internationally.”

On Tuesday, October 29, from 6:30-8 p.m. Dr. Delos will present a talk at the Greenwich Hospital Noble Conference Center titled, Cartilage Transplantation; New Hope for Damaged Knees.  The public is invited to hear the surgeon speak about some of the most innovative techniques for treating patients with knee cartilage damage that have not yet developed arthritis. Cartilage transplantation is done by inserting cylindrical plugs of good cartilage into damaged areas of the meniscus to restore the surface and improve the function of the joint. This technique has been shown to help return athletes to the playing field with a high success rate.
