A Rainy Start to New Year's Week


New Year's week is going to get off to a rainy, if somewhat warm start and by mid-week of the new year, temperatures will drop and there will be a chance of snow. 

Up to an inch of rain is expected Sunday and overnight Sunday into Monday. As the week progresses, temperatures will drop. New Year's Eve revelers should expect low temperatures of about 20.

Here's the National Weather Service's forecast for the week.

  • Today: Rain, mainly after 11 a.m. High near 43. Light and variable wind becoming northeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: Rain likely, mainly before 1 a.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 32. North wind 9 to 16 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 37. Northwest wind 10 to 17 mph.
  • Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 17. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph.
  • Tuesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 32. North wind 5 to 11 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
  • Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 20.
  • New Year's Day: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 27.
  • Wednesday Night: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
  • Thursday: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a high near 23. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Thursday Night: A chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 19. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
  • Friday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 22. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 9.
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 28.
