A Salute To Veterans In Cos Cob

Just as the irises bloom in late spring, the 'stars and stripes' are billowing brightly along the bridge spanning the Mianus River on East Putnam Avenue.

Ever wonder who's behind the flag installation on the border of Cos Cob and Riverside?

The annual display was begun a few years back by the Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Department. "It's a nice way to remind people all we have to be thankful for," according to Greenwich Selectman Dave Theis.

Installed over Memorial Day weekend, the flags will stand sentry until Veterans Day, says Theis.

"For folks in Cos Cob, it's a way for them to show appreciation for Veterans," Theis added.
