Cub Scouts Raising Money for Field Trip

If you're in the Glenville neighborhood of Greenwich, you may want to drop by the Stop & Shop supermarket on Glen Ridge Street.

Members of Greenwich Cub Scout Pack 35 are selling popcorn — in all sorts of savory flavors including ready-to-eat chocolate to ready-to-pop kettle corn and butter-flavored — to raise money for an overnight field trip to the USS New Jersey.

The enthusiastic trio at the entrance to the market Sunday afternoon explained they would be able to stay aboard the battleship that's three-football fields long and docked in Camden, NJ, if they raise enough money. They'll be making the trip in March, according to Jim Donovan, whose son James was selling the popcorn.

All pressed out in their uniforms, James and his fellow Cub Scouts, Evan and Gabe Kostin, also gladly accepted donations from shoppers who weren't in a popcorn mood.

They'll be at Stop & Shop until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 and again next weekend, Oct. 26 and 27.
