Expect Delays with Highway Road Work in Greenwich

Planning a trip on Greenwich highways? You might want to read this advisory.


Summer not only means hot, sticky weather, it also means road construction and travel delays.

Here's the latest from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) which has two major projects that began Monday that will impact your travel time.

According to the DOT, there is a  bridge maintenance project is being performed on I-684 southbound in Greenwich, now through July 26, along with a similar project on northbound I-95 between the New York State line and Exit 2 in Byram.

According to a DOT press release, the project involving bridge deck and concrete repairs to the I-684 southbound bridge over the Tamarack Swamp in Greenwich will continue through the afternoon of Friday, July 26.

Motorists can expect lane closures on I-684 southbound between Exit 3 and Exit 2 in Greenwich. Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

I-95 LANE CLOSURE INFO

Motorists can expect lane closures on I-95 northbound between the New York State Line and Exit 2 (Doran Avenue) in Greenwich.  Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists through the work zone. The regular work schedule for this project is from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday and Tuesday evenings (July 8 - 9).

The project involves concrete haunch removal and concrete repair to the I-95 northbound bridge under James Street in Greenwich. This project is scheduled to occur the evening of Monday, July 8, to the morning of Wednesday, July 10. 

Both projects are part of the Department of Transportation’s 2013 bridge maintenance program and is being done by Mohawk Northeast.
