On The Road-Detours Set As Bridge Work Begins In Riverside

Work to raze and rebuild the Lockwood Lane overpass of I-95 in Riverside is scheduled to begin overnight Monday into early Tuesday, according to Senior Engineer Frank Petise of the Greenwich Public Works Department.

So residents using local roads can expect detours and motorists on I-95 can expect delays.

Crews for the contractor, Rotha Contracting Co. Of Avon, will begin installing barriers around the work site on the turnpike during the early morning of May 13. Lockwood Lane itself will be closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic beginning May 20, when the demolition work will begin, Petise said.

Petise said there will be lane closures on the turnpike as workers demolish the bridge deck overnight for the next several weeks.

Here's the local detour route:

Northbound traffic on Lockwood Lane will need to use Lockwood Road west to Riverside Avenue, north to East Putnam Avenue (Route 1) east.
Southbound traffic on Lockwood Lane will need to use East Putnam Avenue (Route 1), west to Riverside Avenue, south to Lockwood Road east.

Bus transportation is to be provided for students who normally walk to nearby schools—including Eastern Middle School.

And the delays and detours will continue until the project is completed. The projected completion date is Nov. 30, 2013.
