The July 1 Storm Was a Tornado

Officials from the National Weather Service confirmed that that wicked rain and wind storm that pummeled Greenwich and north Stamford on Tuesday, July 1 was indeed a tornado.

An EF-0  tornado cut a swath through backcountry Greenwich and north Stamford around 10:30 a.m., July 1, snapping and uprooting trees, utility poles, and generally leaving a leafy mess behind.

According to Dan Warzoha, Greenwich’s emergency management director, National Weather Service personnel confirmed July 2 that the cell of rain and winds reaching close to 100 mph was indeed an EF-0 tornado. The cell cut a swath about 2 1/2 miles long from backcountry Greenwich to North Stamford.

Literacy Volunteers of Stamford/Greenwich Merges with Family Centers
Literacy Volunteers of Stamford/Greenwich has merged with the Greenwich-based human services agency Family Centers.

The agency which teaches area provides free literacy, job skills training, English language instruction, computer classes, financial literacy services and adult education services to more than 500 Fairfield County residents each year.

The merger will enable Literacy Volunteers to focus on expanding its services to the region's growing non-English speaking population, according to Bob Arnold, Family Centers' executive director.

Greenwich Couple Faces Charges of Assaulting Child in Their Care
A Greenwich couple was arrested on charges they assaulted a young child who had been left in their care, according to Greenwich Police.

Christine Campbell, age unavailable, and Joseph Malloy, 41, both of 67 W. View St., were arrested by investigators who obtained an arrest warrant.
