A Great Start to a Great Week of Holiday Weather!

Good Morning!

We are once again looking at some quiet weather across the eastern U.S. (even much of the country outside of the Northwest) as high pressure continues to extend from New England into the Mid-Mississippi Valley.

The only concern across the region will be how many high clouds build westward as a result of the storminess off shore. This system is as expansive as the high pressure in the eastern and central U.S. The energy of this system extends from southern Florida northward to just east of Cape Cod and farther east of Bermuda. At this point it appears that most of the clouds will occur this morning, then sunshine increases in the afternoon.

So, the good news is that travel conditions (at least as it relates to weather) for the start of the holiday weekend.

So we are getting some high clouds blowing off from the storm system northeastward. So we will see some sunshine and it will be a seasonable afternoon temperature-wise. There will be a slow trend toward milder weather through the week as the storm off shore moves farther away and we get a little more ridging aloft ahead of the next storm system.

The next storm system and associated cold front arrives on Friday this boundary will arrive late in the day Friday or Friday night and will have a shower or two with it, though it will be dry most of the time. So we'll have some clouds increasing during the day Friday with winds increasing out of the south. Often times we are too cool ahead of a front this time of year, so I'm bumping up Friday to reflect that.

The passing of this front will lead to colder weather on Saturday and Sunday. To give quantitative measure of the change we'll go from +7 or +8C at 850mb on Friday, then drop to -5 or -6C by Saturday evening. Needless-to-say to get strong advection like that winds will have to be strong during the day Saturday. So we'll have to reflect the idea that the temperature will drop AND the wind will be strong.

Also the high on Saturday (if timing proves to be true) may occur early in the day with temperatures steady or slow falling during the afternoon. Also with the trough still moving into the area there could be a shower or two around, though much of the time it will be dry.

On Sunday the gradient will let up a little, but it'll still be a breezy and chilly day.
