Sunny, Chilly, But Quiet Weather to End November!

Friday: Clouds & Sun; High: 45;  Maybe a little drizzle or wet snow north and west at night

Saturday: Cloudy and Mild; High: 47; Maybe a Little Drizzle.

Sunday: Cloudy & Milder; High: 55.

The sky overnight has averaged clear to partly cloudy... Recent satellite imagery has been indicating the most widespread clouds have been located across upstate New York and in the northern tier of counties of Pennsylvania... Most of these have been 'falling apart' before reaching the coastal plain... As a high pressure system in the Eastern U.S. becomes firmly established over the Carolinas today and slowly begins drifting to the east, there will be a front with some exceptionally cold air behind it in southeastern Canada which will be sagging into northern and central New England...

So, while places like Montreal and Burlington, Vermont should have temperatures no higher than the freezing mark today (and both could wind up in the 20s this afternoon), all cities that located much farther south will have plenty of sunshine and temperatures that will reach the lower and middle 40s...

Tonight, the sky will be clear for a while in most places, but it will become either partly or mostly cloudy later... Most temperatures will be in the 30s, except in some of the typically colder spots...

There should be a mixture of clouds and sun tomorrow, with temperatures mostly in the 40s... As the high pressure system that will be pushing much colder air into northern New England tonight and tomorrow begins to slide to the east tomorrow night and on Saturday, there will also be some milder air aloft that will start pushing over the top of some colder air near the surface... And, the models are forecasting surface winds along the Northeast and mid Atlantic coasts to be out of the east and southeast on Saturday...

Therefore, it appears that there'll be a lot of clouds around on both Friday night and Saturday, and there could also be a bit of light and spotty precipitation occurring along the leading edge of this milder air... For parts of northeastern Pennsylvania, much of upstate New York, New England and in northern New Jersey, it is probably a good idea to include a mention of a bit of snow or flurries later on Friday night and Saturday morning... This can actually be a 'mixed bag' of precipitation on Saturday morning, which would include a touch of rain or some drizzle...

Because of the cloud cover that'll be so widespread on Saturday, the 'day of transition' from our current chilly air mass to a much milder regime, maximum temperature forecasts for Saturday are some of the most difficult we have to make during the entire forecast period... If low clouds never break, and the winds are fairly light, most temperatures will fail to get out of the 40s -- but some sunny breaks would allow for some thermometers to reach the lower 50s...

We're much more confident that Sunday and Monday will be much milder days, with temperatures both days reaching the upper 50s and lower 60s... This unusual warmth for early in December should continue through the middle of next week, when the next cold front will be approaching from the north and west (probably late on Tuesday night and Wednesday)...

Some rain is possible as that front crosses our path, and then temperatures should roll back several degrees during the second half of next week...
