Take the Rain Gear Today! Showers Later Today and Tomorrow!

A couple of rainy days, then back to sun and upper 60s!

Good Morning,

After a spectacular day yesterday, there are some changes which are about to unfold across the region today... Clouds are spilling over the top of a ridge of high pressure located in the eastern United States, and the regional radar mosaic this morning is also showing a batch of showers and thunderstorms that was rolling across the Great Lakes and into western New York State as of this writing...

And, with a 'backdoor' style cold front located in central New England early this morning dipping southward as the day wears on, a fair amount of moisture located well to the north and west will be getting drawn towards it when it closes in on southeastern New York, southern New England and northern New Jersey during midday today...

Therefore, we're expecting a couple of showers to occur in these areas, primarily this afternoon and tonight... This is probably going to be one of those types of scenarios where the odds are much greater that showers will occur in New York City, the Hudson Valley, Long Island and southern Connecticut this afternoon and tonight, while much of central and southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware see little or no rain at all...

But, these places will still witness some of the clouds associated with the boundary, which will eventually manage stall over the mid-Atlantic states later today and tonight... Temperatures will be mostly in the mid and upper 60s this afternoon across the Tri-State Area, while areas close to and especially south of the Mason-Dixon Line will be warmer...

Because there should be at least a few hours of sun in cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C. — all of these places should reach the 70s with ease... With this old front located nearby tomorrow (and weakening), clouds should limit any sunshine... Again, temperatures should be mainly in the 60s — except those same places that'll be reaching the 70s today should do so again tomorrow...

Unusually warm weather for late in October will prevail through the end of this week, and it will last into the upcoming weekend... Towards the end of this weekend and early next week, things could get REALLY INTERESTING along the Eastern Seaboard... We'll be watching a tropical system that will be gaining strength over the next few days that is currently located in the Caribbean.. "Sandy" is going to be drifting northward over the next few days, while a large upper level trough is expected to dig into the middle of the country... This trough, which will have a lot of chilly air associated with it, is being portrayed by many models to become 'negatively tilted' this weekend...

And, if this trough can manage to capture "Sandy" (which should be a hurricane when it reaches a position off the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina) Sunday, Sunday night and Monday — effectively "reeling it towards the East Coast", there may be a tremendous amount of wind and rain impacting much of the I-95 corridor...

The long range models still vary tremendously, with most forms of domestic guidance showing this storm heading out to sea... However, the Canadian/GGEM and the European global forecast models are showing very nasty weather occurring around here next Sunday night into Monday...

Have a good day!!!
