Greenwich in for Possible Flooding from Downpours, High Winds

Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are forecast from Friday's storm system.

With rain expected to continue through Friday evening and plenty of snow still left on the ground, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Greenwich and surrounding areas effective through Saturday morning.

Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.0 inches are forecast from the system, which may include brief but intense downpours and thunderstorms.

"The combination of high rainfall rates, a current snow pack, and frozen ground could result in significant flooding of urban areas, roadways, and underpasses, as well as small streams," the service warns.

A separate high wind warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. today, with sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts of up to 60 mph expected.

"The high winds will bring down trees and power lines. Loose, lightweight objects outdoors such as trash cans and deck furniture should be brought indoors or secured," the service advises.
