Have a Heart for Veterans

Congressman Jim Himes hosting Valentines for Vets drive.

US Rep. Jim Himes (CT-4) is announcing his fourth annual “Valentines for Vets” program, which collects valentines made by Fourth District children to deliver to local veterans. This year’s valentines will be taken to the local VA hospital, Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport, and other service organizations. Himes traditionally visits a participating school to make cards with students, and veterans accompany him to share stories about their service.

“I was inspired by the impact of last year’s program, and I hope to make this year’s drive even bigger,” Himes said, a Cos Cob resident. “This is a great chance for kids to learn about the sacrifice our men and women in uniform make while showing our veterans they are always in our thoughts.”

Last year, over 60 schools participated by making valentines for distribution. Himes made cards with students at Kings Highway Elementary School in Westport.
