Hey Greenwich! Did You Know ... These Girl Scouts Are Tops?

Four Greenwich teens earn national Scouting awards.

In 1986, the Kansas City Royals drafted football star Bo Jackson, the 1985 Heisman Trophy winner out of Auburn University, in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.

In 2002, 41-year-old Michael Skakel is convicted in the 1975 murder of his former Greenwich neighbor, 15-year-old neighbor Martha Moxley. Skakel, a nephew of Ethel Kennedy, the wife of the late U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, was later sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

A congratulatory salute to these 4 Girl Scouts

Four Greenwich teens have earned the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting. Lauren Bacon, Marisa Hann, Erin Provenzano, and Chelsea Sumner of Greenwich have all earned their Girl Scout Gold Award.

The awards were given at June 3 ceremony at Saint Joseph College which included certificates from Girl Scouts of Connecticut and Girl Scouts of the USA, as well as a letter from Girl Scouts of Connecticut CEO Jennifer Smith Turner.

Each girl developed and implemented a community-oriented project that involved at least 80 hours of work. Lauren developed a museum exhibit program; Marisa gave dance and fitness lessons; Erin developed an environmental science handbook for youngsters, and Chelsea conceived and developed a town history handbook for third-grade students.
