Holiday Season Begins in Greenwich [VIDEO]

Hundreds gather at Greenwich Town Hall for annual tree lighting.

There was a nip in the air as hundreds gathered at Greenwich Town Hall Friday evening for the annual tree lighting ceremony that featured plenty of activities for children.

There were rides on a mechanized reindeer and a tiger; visits from Santa, Mrs. Claus, a couple elves, Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer; and of course, cider and hot chocolate and cookies served up by the Parks and Recreation Department office staff.

For a half-hour leading up to the tree lighting, the 28 members of the Greenwich High School Chamber Singers sang Christmas carols under the direction of music teacher Patrick Taylor.

Many town department heads and officials attended including Parks and Recreation Director Joseph Siciliano, Police Chief James Heavey, state Rep. Livvy Floren, state Rep.-elect Steve Walko, the Board of Selectmen, Town Administrator John Crary, and Frank Gabriele of the Parks Department who organized the festivities.
