New Greenwich Post Office to Open March 12

The Greenwich Post Office is moving from its current building at 310 Greenwich Avenue to its new facility at 44 Amogerone Crossway on March 12.

The Greenwich Post Office is expected to open its new facility at 44 Amogerone Crossway on March 12, the US Postal Service has confirmed.

Last August the USPS sold the building at 310 Greenwich Avenue for $15 million to a company headed by Greenwich real estate magnate Peter Malkin.

According to post office workers, three employees have been assigned to the new facility. The postal service must have all equipment removed from the Greenwich Avenue site by March 31, they said.

Customers can continue to use the Greenwich Avenue facility until 12:30 p.m. March 10. The automated postal center will be moved to the new building March 8, but will not be available for use until March 12. And for postal customers, the town has changed parking availability in a handful of spaces outside the building. There will be a 15-minute limit in those spaces instead of the usual 2-hour parking in the lot.

The 70-year-old mural depicting a scene along the Mianus River in the lobby of the original building is being refurbished, according to a Greenwich Time report. The US Postal Service will work with the community to find a new home for the mural once the restorations are complete, the report states.

Rumors persist as to what business will be moving into the old building which has a full basement. After news of the sale was first reported on Greenwich Patch on Sept. 15, there was buzz that Bergdorf Goodman was eyeing the retail space. Other rumored tenants include Restoration Hardware and Bonwit Teller.
