Patch Picks: Best Local Ethnic Eateries

No need to break out your passport or take a road trip when you can find great international cuisine right here in Greenwich.

Tired of the same-old, same-old burger and fries? Treat yourself and your loved ones to some authentic ethnic fare from Spain, France, the Middle East, India or Japan. The best part? You don’t have to dig around to find a passport for your culinary trip. Here are our favorite local restaurants serving great ethnic cuisine inspired by afar.

Jean Louis (61 Lewis St, Greenwich, 203-622-8450): Greenwich is a hub of fine, French restaurants, but this one is perhaps the most established. Chef Jean-Louis Gerin was born in 1957 in the French Alps, in the Haute- Savoie town of Annecy, the oldest or four children. Under his leadership, Jean Louis puts out rich, modern French cuisine, such as Lobster soufflé and pan-sautéed sole.

Barcelona Wine Bar (18 W Putnam Ave, Greenwich; 203-983-6400): This sexy bar is the go-to joint for authentic, haute Spanish cuisine. Whether you are in the mood for crispy, spicy potatoes, scallops or paella, we recommend getting a pitcher of sweet, red or white sangria.

Myrna’s Mediterranean Bistro (28 Putnam Ave., Greenwich; 203-869-7622): From lamb and chicken kebabs to platters of hummus and crunchy falafel, portions of Lebanese fare here are abundant. An adjoining market is a great spot to stock up on hard-to-find sauces and marinades.

Rasa Indian Cuisine (107-109 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich; 203-869-0700): There are no shortages of Indian eateries in Fairfield County, but this small local favorite is arguably one of the best. Start with savory, crispy samosas, followed by spicy chicken curries or lamb-inspired, sauce-laden main dishes. Wash it all down with a mango Lassi and you’re good to go.

Tengda Asian Bistro (21 Field Point Road, Greenwich; 203-625-5338): This multi-star-rated restaurant serves hot Japanese, Thai, and Asian-fusion dishes for spice fiends. And there’s always an ample selection of fresh fish (the “Dynamite” roll is highly recommended). Just be sure to save room for sorbet and hot or cold sake.
