Connecticut’s representatives in Washington D.C. want increased oversight after 13 people were killed from tainted steroids. According to Fox News, at least 13,000 people were given the injection – including several dozen in Connecticut.
U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-3, told the Connecticut Post that she wants to strengthen regulations regarding compounding pharmacies. One of these pharmacies, based in Massachusetts, was responsible for sending the steroid to doctors throughout the country.
"We are once more in a patchwork," DeLauro told the newspaper. "There's no one agency responsible. It's all over the lot."
Earlier this week, U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Greenwich sent a letter to the Federal Drug Administration to seek stronger federal – rather than state – oversight of compounding pharmacies.
