Letter: Appelbaum 'A Thoughtful, Approachable Leader' for Board of Ed

Last year my wife and I moved to Greenwich for our three children.  We loved the town for its charm, ambiance and low taxes.  We were especially happy to have our children enter the Greenwich Public School System.  Today we have a 2nd grader and Kindergartener at North Mianus (our third will be there two in 2 years).  Having the best possible school system is our biggest concern for our boys.

I am going to vote for Debbie Appelbaum for the Board of Ed.  Debbie has a wealth of experience with the schools and she spent a lot of time with me discussing the board and direction of the schools.  Debbie also moved to Greenwich for the Public Schools. I’ve gotten to know her two highly successful children who attended them K-12.  First and foremost Debbie is a parent who ensured her children got the best education; she is also a thoughtful and approachable leader. She will be the hard working BOE member we need to move our schools forward.

While I have closely followed the recent diversity issues; as a parent, I am most concerned with how the schools teach our kids and communicate with me as a parent. I want my boys to be constantly engaged in a diverse classroom designed to educate them for a technologically centered global economy. I want a system that facilitates dialogues, provides easy access to important information and uses multiple communication tools to keep everyone informed. Debbie does too.

Please join me on November 5, 2013 and vote for the woman I have come to know, not as a Democrat or a Republican, but as someone I trust to make the schools better for all our children.  I am voting for the mom, parent and friend I know best – Debbie Appelbaum
