Food & Folk: Dinner and Folk Concert to Benefit Simply Smiles

Round Hill Community Church will host a Food and Folk fundraiser to benefit Simply Smiles, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building bright futures for impoverished children on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota and in Oaxaca, Mexico. The event will be held in the Round Hill Community House on Sunday, March 9 at 5:00 p.m. and will include an authentic Mexican buffet, prepared by Gabriela Chávez Hernández who grew up in Oaxaca, and became the first recipient of a Simply Smiles college scholarship to study in the U.S. Gabriela recently earned her associate's degree in business at Norwalk Community College and is currently completing her bachelor’s degree at Sacred Heart University.

The meal will be followed by a folk concert given by Kristen Graves, the 2013-2014 Connecticut State Troubadour who is a folk/pop singer and songwriter with a commanding voice, powerful lyrics, and moving stories behind each song. She has been writing and performing her own songs since 2000, and has toured nationally since 2002 (www.KristenGraves.com).

Founder and President Bryan Nurnberger will give a presentation on the work of Simply Smiles. Round Hill Community Church is planning to visit South Dakota this summer to work on the Reservation. If you are interested in being part of the group or for more information go to roundhillcommunitychurch.org or call 203-869-1091.

Tickets for the Food and Folk event are $25 and can be obtained by calling 203-869-1091. All proceeds benefit Simply Smiles. Round Hill Community House is located at 397 Round Hill Road, Greenwich.
