Greenwich Hibernians Plan St. Patrick's Celebrations

Flag-raising set for Saturday; 38th annual parade is on March 25.

The 's St. Patrick's Day celebration kicks off Saturday morning with a Mass in memory of past Hibernians and a flag raising ceremony.

The Association will attend the 8 a.m. Mass at on Greenwich Avenue on March 17. The Mass is said for all deceased members of the Association. Immediately after the Mass, the association will assemble in front of for the raising of the Irish Flag and the playing of the Irish National Anthem. The flag-raising is expected to begin at 8:45 a.m.

The Hibernians' 38th annual St. Patrick's parade actually will be held the following weekend—at 2 p.m., March 25.

Greenwich Chief of Police James J. Heavey will be the grand marshal. He was installed as grand marshal at the organization’s annual dinner dance on March 2. Approximately 135 people attended the dinner where Chief Heavey was presented with the Grand Marshal’s sash by Greenwich Hibernian President Haydn O’Shea and Parade Chair Patricia Wilson.

Heavey will lead the parade that will begin at Town Hall at 2 p.m., proceed up Field Point Road to East Putnam Avenue, then along East Putnam Avenue to Greenwich Avenue, then down Greenwich Avenue.
