Arthur P. Benoit, 67; Worked as Butcher at Former Cos Cob Food Mart

A memorial celebration is planned for this summer.


Arthur Paul Benoit, of Bridgeport and formerly of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at home on May 14, 2014. He was 67.

He was born in Greenwich to Arthur S. and Grace Benoit.

Art served proudly in the US Army 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam, 8th Engineering Division. He was a butcher at the Cos Cob Food Mart for 25 years and most recently was employed with Balducci's in Westport for the past 5 years. He was proud of his yard and garden and spent many hours caring for it. He loved his cats and adopted many from the area over the years.

Art was a well-known bass guitar player and many would remember him from the old band The Creations and other local groups.

He is survived by his wife, Claire (Ferris); his children, Robert, Michelle Nevins and Tracie Harris; his stepson, Jeffery Donohue; his brother, Edward; sister, Jane (Joseph) Doran; 10 grandchildren; two great grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held this summer at his home to share stories and celebrate his life.
