Charles J. LaMonica, 89; Mailroom Supervisor, Volunteer Firefighter

Calling hours and the funeral service are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 28.


Charles J. LaMonica, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on Sept. 22, 2013. He was 89. 

Born on June 7, 1924, in New York City, he was a son of the late Angelina and Santo LaMonica.

Charles is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine Porcheddu of Greenwich; his children, June (Jamie) DeAndressi of Stamford, Darlene (Bill) Church of Greenwich; grandchildren Kristal (Mike) Cozetti, Tara Church, JayJay DeAndressi, Jason DeAndressi, a great-granddaughter Ava Lynn Marchand and many nieces and nephews.

Charles graduated from Greenwich High School in 1942. After graduating he went on to join the United States Army and served from 1942-1943 before he was honorably discharged due to a knee injury.

He went on to work at Fawcett Publications, AMF Corp for 16 years and then Chase Bag Co. for 28 years as a mailroom supervisor. Charles was also a member of the Volunteer Hose & Chemical Co. No. 2, Greenwich Special Police, the American Legion, the Redmen Club and many community services around Greenwich.

Charlie loved sports and was on the GHS basketball team in the 1940s and was known as 'the wizard of the court.' The Doral Bowling Ally was his second home. He and his team won many tournaments.

Charlie loved the town beaches, his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was his nieces' and nephews' favorite uncle. He will be greatly missed.

Friends are invited to visit at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich, from 10 to 11:30 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 28. A service will begin at the funeral home at 11:30 A.M. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Greenwich.
