Dorothy Bertine, Executive Secretary, Former Town Resident

Services are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 18.


Dorothy E. Bertine, formerly of Greenwich, died Nov. 11, 2013 at the Slate Belt Nursing & Rehab Center in Washington Township, PA.

Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late William F. and Anna (Warnecke) Eske.

She worked as an executive secretary/administrative assistant for Morton Frozen Foods, Kitchen Associates and AMAX. She was then appointed trustee to the Edna Bailey Sussman Fund which distributed monies for education to Navaho Indians and students studying Environmental Science at various prestigious universities. For her excellent service for over 20 years, The Dorothy Bertine Internship Award was established in her honor in 2007.

Dorothy was a long time member of the Harrison Presbyterian Church in Harrison, NY and the Greenwich Women's Club. She also enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing and swimming both at the local YMCA and at Tod's Point Beach.

She is survived by a daughter, Carol B. Hall and her husband, Jim of Tannersville, PA; three grandchildren, Timothy Hall, Kristina Leshnower and Kathryn McGinley; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was the widow of Charles S. Bertine who died in 1977. She also was predeceased by her son, Jeffrey S. Bertine in 1990.

There will be a visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Harrison Presbyterian Church, 181 Harrison Ave., Harrison, NY. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Private burial will follow in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Harrison Presbyterian Church, 181 Harrison Ave., Harrison, NY 10528 or to the charity of one's choice.
