Douglas H. Jackens, 89; Avid Boater Involved with Greenwich Power Squadron


Douglas Halbert Jackens died Monday May 5, 2014. He was 89. 

Mr. Jackens was born Feb. 10, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Greenwich in 1962. He served in the Army during WWII and was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1948 he married Mildred Emily Bourne. 

He worked in pharmaceuticals, for Upjohn, Pfizer, and Merck, Sharpe & Dome from 1950 to 1969; then in real estate until retiring in 1999. 

Mr. Jackens was an avid boater and was very active in the Greenwich Power Squadron, serving as Commodore in 1984 and volunteering his time teaching Power Squadron courses, and he always enjoyed a good game of bridge. 

He is survived by his sons William of Eustis, FL, Douglas of Trumbull, James of Bridgeport, Robert of Georgetown, TX, his daughter Susan Schroeder of Mount Dora FL; seven grandchildren: Douglas, Jenna, Krissy, Robert, Samuel, Heather, Meagan, and one great-grandchild McKenzie. 

A private memorial service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Norwalk.
