Eleanor Wrotnowski, 94; Lifelong Greenwich Resident

Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 1 with a funeral to be held Saturday, Nov. 2.

Eleanor Frost Wrotnowski, a Greenwich native, died at the Greenwich Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2013. She was 94.

Eleanor was born on June 14, 1919 in Greenwich.

In her youth, she loved to explore nature. She graduated from the Greenwich Academy in 1937, and Sweet Briar College in 1941 with a degree in English. In 1943, she married Arthur C. Wrotnowski, a chemical and mechanical engineer who worked for the American Felt Company in Glenville.

During the war, she worked as a secretary. After her husband returned from the war, they raised two boys, conveying to them a love for travel, for literature, for music, for science and for nature. Sailing was one of her favorite activities, along with gardening. Later in life she took numerous trips to Europe, the Caribbean and other places, always seeking out what she regarded as historical and authentic for the area. She recorded the music at many Irish pubs that they visited.

After her husband's death in 2001, she still managed to find ways to enjoy life. She loved being by the water, reading, doing crosswords. She always had a strong interest in international affairs, and loved to discuss them.

She is survived by her two sons, Cort Wrotnowski of Greenwich, and Gary Wrotnowski of Dunwoody, GA, and three grandchildren, Jessica Wrotnowski of Watertown, MA, Michael Wrotnowski and Douglas Wrotnowski, both of Greenwich.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 1 at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich,

The funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2  at the First Congregational Church, at 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.
