Irene G. Pennella, 91, Enjoyed Cooking, Baking, Family

Funeral services set for Thursday.

 

Irene G. Pennella, 91, of Riverside passed away on Oct. 20, 2012.

She was born in Greenwich on Feb. 12, 1921 to the late Joseph G. and Alfreda (Dytrych) Glinka.

Irene was predeceased by her beloved husband of 67 years Charles W. Pennella Sr. on April 13, 2010

In addition to raising her family, Irene held a hairdressing license, was employed by the Electroux Corp in Old Greenwich, and worked in the parishes of St. Agnes and St. Catherine of Siena in town. Irene loved cooking, baking and gardening but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

She is survived by her daughter Joanne Smardin (Jon), her sons Peter (Jackie) and Charles, her sister Frances Manzella; Grandchildren Kristine Koproski (Craig), Kimberly Feighery (Tim), Jill Meehan (Brendan), Peter Pennella (Jackie), Adam Smardin (Kim), and her Great Grandchildren Ashley and Kaitlyn Feighery; Jake, Ryan, Brady Koproski; Peter (PJ) and Carter Pennella, Abigail and Connor Smardin.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Irene was predeceased by a daughter Charlene Pennella, Sisters Margaret Locke and Mary Glinka, her brothers Adam Glinka, Henry Glinka, William Glinka, and her beloved dog Muffin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012 at 10 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to: Greenwich Hospital Hospice, 5 Perryridge Road, Greenwich, CT 06830.
