Obituary: Catherine 'Kay' Bria, 88; Retired Board of Education Cook

Calling hours are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 13, with the funeral set for Wednesday, Aug. 14.

Catherine (Pennella) Bria, a lifelong resident of Greenwich, died peacefully Friday, Aug. 9, 2013 at Greenwich Hospital surrounded by her family after a short illness. She was 88.

Known to her friends as Kay, she was born Dec. 26, 1924 to Peter and Concetta DeLeo Pennella.

She married her husband James Bria in October 1947, who died in 2001.

Mrs. Bria was a retired cook with the Greenwich Board of Education. Her most enjoyable times were spent with her family doing what she did best: caring for them as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her presence will be sadly missed and forever a part of our lives.

She is survived by three children: Linda Marullo and James Bria, Jr. of Greenwich and Kathie Petrov and her husband Constantin of Stamford. She is also survived by five grandchildren: William, Stephen and Alexander Petrov; James Bria III and Lauren Bria; and two great grandchildren, Nicholas and Zachary Petrov.

Besides her parents and husband, Catherine was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Pennella and William Pennella, and son-in-law Ignazio Marullo.

The Bria family will receive the sympathy of friends and family on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home and Cremation, 453 Shippan Ave., in Stamford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 at St. Roch Parish, 10 St. Roch Ave., Greenwich. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich.
