Obituary: Joyce Grant, 86; Travel Agent, World Traveler

A memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 17.

Joyce Alice Gafford Grant, passed away in her Greenwich, home on July 31, 2013. She was 86.

She was preceded in death by Walter R. Grant, the love of her life and husband of 54 years.

Born Feb. 9, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Rose and Armand Gafford, Joyce attended schools in Cleveland, and graduated from Denison University in 1948.
Joyce is survived by her brother, George, her four daughters, Kathleen, Sallie, Nancy and Laurie, and three grandsons, Tyler Barns and Harrison and Fletcher Gelber.

Too energetic and not content with an empty nest, Joyce became a travel agent when her youngest daughter went off to college. She not only travelled the world with Walter, but continued the tradition with her grandsons, taking them to such non-grandma locations as the Galapagos Islands and Africa. In between, the "Bahama Mama" relaxed at her home on Man O'War Cay in the Abaco Islands.

A memorial service and celebration of Joyce's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17 at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club, Steamboat Road, Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Greenwich Hospice. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.leopgallaghergreenwich.com
