Feeling Overwhelmed? Try this!

I know that I’ve written about this before but it became especially “real” to me last week when we were inundated with orders from our Free Shipping campaign with our Campus Reps. We had a record week last week & it was so exciting but a lot of work as a result. I was delighted but overwhelmed as you might imagine. On Wednesday afternoon my kids declared that we were going to go to see “22 Jump Street” at 4:30, no debate.

Now, for those of you that have followed me for a while now you know that I have a very low threshold for entertainment. I am ashamed to admit it but I do watch the Kardashians, Bachelor/Bachelorette & others, but I find that these silly and often stupid shows can help me clock out for a little bit in order to just “etch-a-sketch” my brain. It also gives me a little “street cred” with my daughter and some of her friends which shouldn’t go without note.

Anyway, I digress. The kids knew I was stressed & they knew that I needed a break (Lord bless them) so that’s why they didn’t give me an “out”. I’d already passed on doing a dysfunctional family (I’m divorced) overnight in Vermont the weekend before because I needed to upload our whole new product line to the site which was a huge job. I would have just been on the couch in a house in VT rather than at our own home so it didn’t make sense to me to go back/forth just for one night. On Wednesday, the kids stepped up & got me out of my head, literally.

We had a fun time, a few laughs & most important, a little time together. It was a good reminder of something that I’ve spoken about before but had forgotten myself. Sometimes we need to put our Oxygen masks on first & take a break rather than push forward when we are overwhelmed. Just stepping away for a little bit helps give you some perspective & when you do return to your project or work you might even find it easier to wrap up because you have a “fresh brain”

When was the last time that you were overwhelmed? Does stepping away help you or do you just keep pushing through?
