3 Norwalk Men Charged with Car Burglary

Greenwich Police say suspects near burglarized car parked downtown.

Greenwich Police investigating a report of "several suspicious males peering into numerous parked vehicles" near the top of Greenwich Avenue early Thursday arrested a trio of Norwalk men on charges they burglarized a car.

According to a Greenwich Police report, the men were arrested about 4:30 a.m. Nov. 17 after they were found on Amogerone Crossway near the top of Greenwich Avenue. Police said the men were standing outside their car but could not provide a reason why they were there. Police found a car parked nearby with a broken window and "it appeared the vehicle had been rummaged through. A screwdriver was located in the vicinity," according to the report. A witness identified the men as the group seen looking into the car.

Charges of third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief and conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary were lodged against Jerry L. Blankenship, 31, of 24 Wilton Ave.; Jose Cruz, 55, and Frederic M. Davis, 49, both of 4 Merritt Pl.

Davis also was charged with illegal possession of narcotics after police found four white paper packages "with NyQuil written in red on each package" which contained a white powdery substance that tested positive for heroin.

Bond for Blankenship and Cruz was set at $10,000; $15,000 for Davis. Cruz and Davis were unable to post bond. All three were scheduled to appear Nov. 25 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
