4 Teens Face Robbery, Burglary Charges [Update]

Greenwich Police they are continuing their investigation into the robbery of a Greenwich man in Byram last week as well as at least 3 car burglaries in the area.

The quartet of four teen suspects from Port Chester, NY were arrested less than an hour after the Jan. 26 incident near the Mill Street bridge in western Greenwich's Byram neighborhood. According to police, the victim was a 35-year-old Greenwich resident was pushed to the ground and beaten.  He refused medical treatment, police said.

Police are still seeking the owners of items taken during at least 3 car burglaries that the quartet also are accused of committing, in the Mill Street and North Water Street area, according to police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray. Among the items police said they found on the suspects were a purse, laptop and a passport.

A quartet of Port Chester, NY teens were arrested early Thursday in connection with an assault and robbery of a man, and the burglaries of several cars — all in the western Greenwich section of Byram.

The victim told Greenwich Police that about 4 a.m. Thursday, he was attacked from behind, pushed to the ground, and beaten about the head and body before the robbers took his wallet and other belongings.

During a search of the area, police found the four walking in the 500 block of West Putnam Avenue. Two of the suspects had the victim's belongings.

Police said that during their investigation they found the four apparently were involved in "numerous unlocked vehicles in Byram ... and stole items."

The suspects — three juveniles 2 of whom are 17, and a 16-year-old, who were not identified because of their ages — and Joey Rodriguez, 18, who gave an address of 70 Purdy Ave., each were charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree burglary, third-degree assault, fifth-degree larceny, and conspiracy on each of those charges.  One of the 17-year-olds also was charged with possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

None of the suspects were able to post $10,000 bond. Rodriguez was scheduled to appear Feb. 2 in state Superior Court in Stamford. The 17-year-olds were scheduled to appear Feb. 1 in the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court in Stamford. The 16-year-old was release in the custody of a parent and scheduled to appear Feb. 7 in the Juvenile Matters Division.
