Anonymous Tip Leads Greenwich Cops to Suspects

The suspects tried to elude Greenwich Police by riding their bicycles onto I-95, police say.

Greenwich Police received an anonymous tip that a trio of men were riding bicycles from Port Chester into Greenwich and were planning to burglarize cars in central Greenwich early Saturday.

When Greenwich Police found a trio matching the description given to them shortly after 1 a.m. July 12 on Byram Shore Road, the suspects tried to elude officers by riding the bicycles onto I-95 "in the opposite direction of traffic," according to a police report.

Two of the suspects, who police said were minors, abandoned the bikes and fled. A short time later, a third bicycle was found at the nearby Byram Yacht and Boat Club where the suspects were found hiding, according to the report.

Yerald N. Fermin, 18, of 45 Traveres Ave., Port Chester, was charged with third-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer and risk of injury to a minor. He was released after posting $200 bond and was given a July 21 court appearance date.

The two minors were referred to the Juvenile Matters Court, police said.
