Arrests Made in Two Avenue Robberies

Police on Sunday arrested a town man and a Port Chester, NY man in connection with the armed robberies of a CVS and Subway on Greenwich Avenue, respectively.

Two men who know each other were arrested Sunday morning following separate armed robberies of chain stores on Greenwich Avenue, though each appears to have acted on his own, according to police.

A 27-year-old Port Chester, NY man has been arrested on felony charges following an armed robbery of on Greenwich Avenue — the in one month in the chain's local pharmacies. A 37-year-old Greenwich man also has been arrested for the armed robbery of a sandwich shop one block away from the CVS.

He entered the CVS at about 10 a.m. and is accused of forcing 924 Oxycontin pills from pharmacists with a Beretta .177 pellet gun, which "bore a strong resemblance to an actual firearm," police said.

"Investigation at the scene revealed that the subject entered the store and approached the pharmacist at the service counter," Greenwich police Public Information Officer Lt. Kraig Gray said in a press release. "The subject then displayed the handgun and demanded all the Oxycodone and Xanax. The pharmacist complied with the demand and the subject left the store."

No one was injured, according to police.

Police received a call reporting a robbery in progress and responded to the CVS, which is located about three long blocks from headquarters, within approximately two minutes, according to Gray. They saw Glowacki walking up the Avenue, and a CVS employee pointed him out to a patrolman, saying, "That's him," according to the police report.

Glowacki threw the gun down as he was being arrested, Gray said. He's being held on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

The incident follows a Jan. 18 of a CVS in Riverside. Police used surveillance cameras to help in that case.

Also, on Friday night, a man armed with a gun on the Avenue, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

After the Glowacki incident — due to the close proximity of the two similar robberies — police say they began making inquiries about a possible connection between the crimes.

"As a result of this investigation, a suspect who resided in the area was identified as a possible suspect in the Subway robbery," police said. "An eyewitness subsequently identified this individual as the person who committeed the robbery at Subway."

In the Subway incident, police arrested Brian C. Steed of 12 West Putnam Ave., and charged him with first-degree robbery. He was held on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 14 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

"Steed and Glowacki are known to each other, however, at this time it appears that they each acted on their own accord during the robberies that they are alleged to have committed," police said.
