Greenwich Bar Patron Accused of Slugging Bouncer

Greenwich Police say the suspect was asked to leave the bar before the bouncer was assaulted.

A patron of a downtown Greenwich bar is facing third-degree assault and breach of peace charges after he reportedly slugged the bar's bouncer in the eye.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Matthew R. Fletcher, 28, of 33 Arnold St., Old Greenwich, was arrested shortly after 12 a.m. on March 24. Fletcher is accused being belligerent in the crowded bar of Sundown Saloon, 403 Greenwich Ave., and "became aggressive with staff when he was asked to leave the bar."

Fletcher reportedly punched a security bouncer in the eye, causing a cut and bruise, before fleeing the bar, according to the report. Police caught him on Arch Street.

He was released on a promise to appear March 31 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
