Driver Faces DWI, Risk of Injury to a Minor Charges

Greenwich Police say motorist was driving 'slow' in the fast lane of Connecticut Turnpike.

A motorist was cited for multiple charges including driving while intoxicated and risk of injury to a minor because he had two youngsters in his car, according to Greenwich Police.

According to the police report, the incident occurred about 4 a.m. June 30 when the driver was spotted by a Greenwich officer "operating erratically traveling north on I 95 between exits 2 and 3."

The driver, identified as Jorge L. Ortiz, 33, of 52 Arch St., New Haven, is accused of drifting "from the far right lane to the far left lane at a slow rate of speed failing to signal lane changes." Ortiz was seen coming "to a complete stop in the center lane nearly being struck from behind," according to the report.

Ortiz, who had two youngsters in his car, was stopped at Exit 4 of the turnpike. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating without a license, failure to drive in proper lane and 2 counts of risk of injury to a minor.

He was held in lieu of $1,000 bond. His court date was not available.
