Driver Faces Weapons, Motor Vehicle Charges

Greenwich PD: Suspect also was wanted by Stamford Police who had an arrest warrant for him.

A motorist on Mason Street who was stopped by Greenwich Police after an automated license plate reader indicated the registration of the Jeep Liberty the man was driving had been suspended, was arrested on weapons and motor vehicle charges.

According to a Greenwich Police report, Michael R. Martinez, 22, of 1425 Bedford St., Stamford, was charged after the motor vehicle stop at 2:23 p.m. Feb. 22. Police said a records check indicated that Martinez was wanted by Stamford Police on a charge of first-degree failure to appear in court on previous narcotics-related charges.

A police search of Martinez's vehicle afer he was taken into custody, yielded two knives.

Martinez was charged by Greenwich Police with weapons in a motor vehicle, suspended registration, operating without insurance and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. He posted a $1,000 bond on those charges and a $2,500 bond for the failure to appear in court charge.

Martinez was scheduled to appear March 1 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
