Greenwich Brothers Charged After 'Altercation'

Two brothers who live on Weaver Street face disorderly conduct charges stemming from an 'altercation' in their home on Jan. 2.

David S. Kovach, 51, and Steven W. Kovach, 49, both of 202 Weaver St., were charged following the Monday evening incident. According to a Greenwich Police report, the men were involved in "an altercation." "David claimed Steven pushed him on his neck" and "Steven claimed David aggressively was standing in front of him," according to the report.

The pair were released on summones, each issued temporary orders of protection and scheduled to appear Jan. 3 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A Stamford woman was arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge, the result of a one-car accident she reportedly had on Round Hill Road back in October.

According to Greenwich Police, Cindy A. Varbaro, 26, who gave an address of 154 Cold Spring Rd., surrendered to police who obtained an arrest warrant in connection with the Oct. 29, 2011. Police spokesman Lt. Kraig Gray said Varbaro apparently crashed her car into a utility pole on Round Hill Road between Burying Hill and Close roads, about 5:30 a.m. She was taken to Greenwich Hospital for unspecified injuries.

Varbaro was released after posting a $250 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 19 in state Superior Court in Stamford.

A Greenwich landlord received a summons for a charge of criminal lockout stemming from a landlord-tenant dispute.

According to Greenwich Police, Robert B. Schmaling, 65, who gave an address of 5 Idlewild Manor, Greenwich, was charged shortly before 8 p.m. Jan. 2. Police were called to the house because the tenant found the landlord changed the locks on an apartment there. Police said Schmaling did not have a court order allowing him to change the locks.

He was scheduled to appear Jan. 9 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
