Greenwich Firefighters' 'Fill the Boot' Campaign Raises More Than $20,000

For the last several years, during each summer Greenwich's bravest hold their 'Fill the Boot' campaign.

Each summer, regardless of the weather, Greenwich firefighters spend four weekends at various outposts throughout Greenwich, collecting money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year's effort by the Greenwich Professional Firefighters Local 1042 was organized by firefighters Matt Gordiski, Doug Howley and Adam Jacubowski.

According to Gordiski, "We collected over four weekends first on Greenwich Avenue on July 13th, then at Byram Firehouse on July 20th, followed by Old Greenwich Fire Station on July 27th, and the last collection took place at Glenville firehouse on Aug. 3."

The firefighters "collected $20,908 over the four collections and 100% of the proceeds go to Muscular Dystrophy," Gordiski said.

"We will present the check on Aug. 30th at Mohegan Sun where the foundation has a party and telethon," Gordiski said. He added, "I would say one of the more important messages I want to send to the town is to give everyone a big thank you for their donations and also letting them know that all the proceeds are going to the charity."

Way to go Local 1042!
