Greenwich HS Student Faces Drug Charges

Greenwich Police investigated a report of a student under the influence of a narcotic.

A Greenwich High School student is facing drug charges after Greenwich Police were sent to the school to investigate a report of a student being under the influence of narcotics, or possibly suffering from a suspected drug overdose.

According to a police report, when officers arrived shortly before 11:15 am. Feb. 26, they were given a small amount of a leafy green substance, suspected to be marijuana, a glass pipe that smelled of burnt marijuana, a vaporizer used to inhal marijuana, and an unmarked bottle containing pills — that school personnel found in the student's backpack.

The 13 pills in the bottle were later determined to be the anxiety drug Ativan.

Police charged Osman Merida, 19, of 15 Scofield St., Greenwich, with possession of narcotics, possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to keep a narcotic drug in original container.

Merida was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear March 5 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
