Greenwich Nanny Charged with Stealing Tableware

The first clue, according to a Darien police report, came when a homeowner found a paper bag with the loot; soon, it was gone, along with the nanny.

A Darien man, returning home late Wednesday afternoon, found some of his family's serving dishes and a four-piece setting of stainless steel flatware in a brown paper bag in the front lawn.

The items are worth about $500, Darien police were later told, and they were part of the evidence used to arrest the 60-year-old Greenwich woman who worked as a nanny at the home.

Capt. Frederick W. Comm, commander of the Darien Police detective bureau and a spokesman for the department gave this account of the incident:

The nanny, Blanco Pineda, who gave an address of 28-11 Armstrong Ct., Greenwich, was later contacted by Darien police and admitted that she had taken the items, which she later returned.

Pineda was charged with sixth-degree larceny and released on a promise to appear Feb. 27 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
