The Greenwich Police Department was recognized Thursday for its achievements in traffic safety by the AAA of Southern New England.
Departments from across Connecticut attended the luncheon ceremony at the Trumbull Marriott where the awards for traffic safety programs were presented.
Greenwich Police Officer Ron Carosella of the department's Traffic Section was named “Traffic Hero of the Year” for the Town of Greenwich for his exceptional work with teens and driving. He has previously been recognized by the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce as “Officer of the Year” for his work with both teens and seniors in driver training.
The Greenwich Police Department received the Gold Award for the third consecutive year, and was recognized for its pedestrian safety initiative in reducing fatal and serious injury collisions involving pedestrians.
The Traffic Section is staffed by Sergeants John Sluzarz and Roger Drenth, and Officers Carosella, Dan Hendrie and Scott Johnson.
