iPhone Lost at CVS in Greenwich, then Stolen

Arrest information is supplied by the Greenwich Police Department. It does not indicate convictions.

Greenwich police arrested a pair of siblings last week after discovering that a woman had taken an iPhone that was dropped in a local CVS and given it to her brother, and that neither had tried to return the device to its owner.

The brother, Mamadou Hane, 36, of 2390 State St., Apt. 7B, Hamden, was charged with fifth-degree larceny.

It isn’t clear what his sister—Emilie Hane, 33, of 28 Sherman Ave., Apt. 2, Greenwich, was charged with.

Emilie at about 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 15 picked up a cellphone that another woman had dropped at the CVS on 644 West Putnam Ave., according to a police report. Video surveillance showed that she put the phone in her jacket and walked out, without trying to return it, police said.

Police identified Emilie and confronted her at home. There, she confessed to taking it and said she’d given it to a brother (Mamadou). Police spoke to him, and he acknowledged that he knew of the stolen phone’s origins and hadn’t tried to give it back, police said.
