It Was The Smoking Apple That Caught the Officer's Eye

Town man arrested on drug-related charge.

There wasn't a smoking gun.

Rather it was a smoking apple that caught the eye of a Greenwich Police officer Monday morning. Officer Brian Tornga was patrolling East Putnam Avenue near Sheephill Road around 10:20 a.m. and saw a motorist trying to light a red apple while driving. According to police, it's not uncommon for people to cut or hollow out an apple to use for smoking illicit drugs.

When the officer stopped the driver, identified as Paul Greenwich, 39, of 42 Hendrie Ave., Greenwich, they found a small amount of marijuana. Green was charged with possession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
