Man Faces Charges He Tried to Break Into 3 Old Greenwich Homes

Greenwich Police captured the suspect after a chase through backyards along the Old Greenwich-Stamford border.

 

A man who was reportedly seen peering into the windows of homes in the Hunter Place neighborhood in Old Greenwich faces a series of charges after leading Greenwich Police on a foot chase.

At noon Thursday, police responded to the area after someone reported seeing a man looking into the windows of the Hunter Place homes and then walking through a Havemeyer Lane backyard. According to a police report, the man fled when officers tried to stop and question him.

Police found a window of a Halsey Drive had been broken and the Greenwich After the suspect was caught a short distance away on Connecticut Avenue in Stamford, the Greenwich Police canine unit found some of the man's clothing and a plastic bag with what tested positive for marijuana, according to the report.

James Earl Shepard, 44, who recently moved to 20 Orchard St., Stamford, from Williamston, NC, was charged with possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana, second-degree criminal mischief, interfering with an officer, simple trespass, and three counts of criminal attempt at third-degree burglary. Shepard was held in lieu of $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear Dec. 7 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
