Man Faces Charges in Greenwich Assault

A man is facing multiple charges following an argument during which a Greenwich woman was assaulted.

According to a Greenwich Police report, the man is accused of throwing a broom at the victim during an argument just before 8 a.m. June 18 on Mill Street, in the Byram neighborhood of town. The woman suffered a cut near a eye when she was struck by the broom, according to the report.

Alexandre Mendonca, 30, of 251 Mill St., was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree threatening and two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Mendonca remains in custody, unable to post a court-set bond of $7,500, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website. He is scheduled to return to state Superior Court in Stamford on July 22.

The police report did not indicate whether the victim needed medical treatment for the injury.
