NY Man Arrested for Trespassing After Caught Inside ‘Uninhabitable’ Building

Police said building had been deemed uninhabitable by the Greenwich Department of Health and Engineering.

A New York man was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal trespass Thursday, Sept. 1, after he was allegedly caught squatting in an Armonk Street building that had been deemed uninhabitable by the Greenwich Department of Health and Engineering.

Police said Joshua Evans, 24, of Vestal, N.Y., was inside the structure at 4 Armonk Street when officers arrived at around 6 a.m. Police said the town had posted a sign on the building deeming it uninhabitable due to its poor condition.

Evans was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 9.

Police said they were called by the tenant, who complained that Gottfried had vandalized his truck as well as the garage door to his rented space. When officers arrived, they observed writing in magic marker on the garage door as well as on the driver’s window of the truck. Police said there was also a deep scratch on the truck’s left fender. Gottfried reportedly told police that she "lost it" over a parking situation and admitted that she had used the marker to write on her neighbor's vehicle and garage door. She was released on a promise to appear in court on Sept. 14.
